In our tour of the fabulous golf courses of palm Coast we next come to the oceanfront Hammock Dunes Golf course. A Tom Fazio creation, it is a links course design. This beautiful course has several holes that play along the ocean side. It has been rated as on of the best courses in Florida since opening in 1989. The Golf Course News has called it one of the “Best Private Seaside Designs in America.”

            Moving back over the intercoastal waterway, we come to the Hammock Dunes Creek course. Designed by renowned golf course architect, Reese Jones, this beautiful course opened in January 2003. The course sits on about 690 acres, and has the distinction of having no home sites on it. Your golf experience is enhanced by the marshlands that team with wildlife. You may see deer, wild pigs, osprey, and alligators. An eagle even lives in a tree near the driving range. You can hear the animals walking through the dense trees, and not knowing what will cross out into the fairway.

            The oldest course in Palm Coast, the Palm Harbor Golf course, was opened in 1972. Bill Amick and Arnold Palmer designed it. This course was donated to the city by one of the developers who owned it and is now closed for renovations. Once it reopens it will join the Ocean Palm Golf course as the two public golf courses in the county. The Ocean Palm course is just a block off the beach and offers basic golf. Nine holes, a great place to take the kids or a new player. It is inexpensive and the only course that allows you to walk your round of golf.

            The courses of Palm Coast offer something for every level of player and budget. From public to semi-private and private membership clubs, or you can play at a truly upscale resort on the ocean. There are many reasons why people play golf.
